For more than twenty years, serving as an educational leader and raising my own two children, I dreamed of a place like Discovery Village. In July of 2019, I was blessed with the opportunity to open this magnificent center.
The journey preparing to begin Discovery Village was filled with meaningful experiences. I studied – completing a Ph.D in education. I led nursery school through high schools, implementing innovative approaches, emphasizing project based learning and character education.
Throughout the years I led schools, I marveled at the creativity and focus on wellbeing of exemplary daycare centers. As a working mom, I experienced personally the necessity of having a village to support me as I lived through the many celebrations and tribulations of guiding my own two children to adulthood.
Serving as an educational leader, I became a teacher of teachers. I co-authored the book The Coach Approach to School Leadership: Leading Teachers to Higher Levels of Effectiveness, published by the prestigious Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. I am also the author of Havens of Hope: Ideas for Redesigning Education from the COVID-19 Pandemic. Havens of Hope traces the experiences of Discovery Village and 24 other programs that not only navigated through the challenges of 2020-2021, but got better. I serve as an adjunct faculty member in Northeastern’s doctoral program of education, and frequently speak at professional conferences, seminars, and workshops nationally. Through it all I have been blessed to engage with many talented educators, parents, and most of all – children, forging the ideas that are at the foundation of the Discovery Village approach.
There are very few childcare centers and preschools led by nationally recognized educational leaders. Discovery Village, with our unique approach, serves as a model to other educators for what is possible in early childhood education. I welcome you to reach out and explore our village.

Welcome to Discovery Village!
My name is Krystallyn Martinez, and I am the Center Director here at Discovery Village. I am most importantly and exceptionally thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know all families and children within Discovery Village. I am a true believer that open communication with families leads to greater success for all children during the early stages of child development.
I have had the pleasure of being a part of the Early Childhood Education field for 14 consecutive years. During my experience, I closely became familiar with the foundations of an enriching and stress-free learning environment that caters to the interests of children’s curiosities as well as supporting developmental milestones. Providing children with the experience of learning through play offers all children the opportunity to expand cognitive skills while supporting all 5 domains within the developmental milestones.
I currently hold an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education Studies with a minor in Special Education. I will soon return to my studies to earn a Master’s Degree to further expand my teaching and leadership abilities in the field of Early Childhood Education.
Throughout my experience, I have fulfilled many positions within Early Childhood Education programs including but not limited to both an educator and program leader. I have since then carried the knowledge and skills of teaching strategies in identifying and managing classroom environments and applying structural center support for all.
My greatest passion is working with children and families to witness the amazing connections that occur between children and early learning educators. My goal as a Center Director is to provide families and children with strategic support in family engagement as well as child development. I strive to oversee and support the teachers of Discovery Village to ensure the finest quality care for all.
